International students appreciates the traditional Chinese Mooncake culture

 

On the day of 13th of September, all the international students in ZBVI and their Chinese classmates celebrates the Mid-autumn Festival by making mooncakes in the College Foodstuff Workshop, appreciating the rich traditional Chinese culture. The international students in ZBVI come from different countries: U.S.A, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Cameroon, Zimbabwe and Algeria.

During the visit, the teachers of International School makes a brief introduction of the Mid-autumn Festival and Director of the College Foodstuff Workshop demonstrates how to make mooncakes for the students. After that all the international students are taught how to make mooncakes and they are happy to have the DIY chance. With the guidance of the teachers, they learn to do it quickly. They feel extraordinarily excited to taste their own self-made mooncakes.  A students from Kazakhstan says to the reporter: “I have only seen mooncakes in the supermarket and did not realize it is so fun to make it. It makes me more interested in Chinese culture.”  

Mid-autumn Festival has always been the time for family reunions in China. This get-together not only offers the international students a good chance to make and taste mooncakes, but helps them appreciate the customs of mooncakes and significance of Chinese culture.    

It is reported that ZBVI has adopted the internationalization policy to recruit more foreign students from different countries. Up to now, more than 100 students from different countries have come to study in ZBVI. With the excellent hardware and qualified teaching staff, the international students can enjoy more colorful after-school activities here, thus making their stay more meaningful and broadening their world view.
